Waltham St Lawrence Sunday
XI suffered a huge loss yesterday against Braywood.
Bowling first in baking hot conditions Waltham
got off to a rocky start as both brown and Harris struggled
for line and length. Indeed the breakthrough came courtesy
of a run out with Brown reacting to a ricochet off Rockell's
foot to throw into Connor who took the bails off.
Waltham then used the momentum to spur them into
action and with Railton picking up a wicket with his
first ball and a further two in an excellent spell things
were looking good. In particular Waltham's
fielding looked sharp especially debutant Gupta who
took 3 catches, the last one a stunning effort to get
rid of Langley off Kiani who took 2 wickets.
So Braywood finished with a respectable 180 off their
40 overs which was disappointing for WSL after having
had them in trouble at 49 for 5. Waltham's
reply got off to the worst possible start as Parker
was bowled 2nd ball. This was the order of the afternoon
as wicket after wicket fell with only Harris of the
top order making a fist of the total. Smith
and Christodolou came in late on and showed the top
order how to bat as they scored 11 and 10 n.o respectively.
Congratulations to Braywood on their victory. Waltham
will look for revenge in the corresponding fixture later
on in the season. |
