Waltham
St Lawrence 2nd XI finished the season in great style
with a crushing victory over local rivals Knowl Hill.
After losing the toss Waltham took to the field looking
to build on the momentum from the previous week and
Javed gave them the perfect start bowling Harris with
a fast yorker. More was to come from the pumped up Javed
as he bowled McDermott then followed it up by rattling
Thompson's stumps as Knowl Hill were in disarray at
12 for 4.
In the huddle, Connor asked even more effort as Waltham
refused to be complacent and Ghulam at the Royal Oak
end responded by bowling Depledge with a ball that nipped
back off the seam.
Whilst the carnage ensued Crawcour continued to look
solid but he was soon running out of partners as Javed
had Plank trapped in front then a brilliant piece of
work from Nebbett in field left Knowl Hill 7 down with
only 28 on the board
Waltham were now looking to finish the innings as soon
as possible and Javed was happy to oblige as he bowled
Randall with a fast straight ball, got one to nip back
and bowl Crawcour and with Ghulam taking Gibson it was
left to Javed, the star of the show to take the final
wicket as Knowl Hill were shot out for 50 with Javed
taking career best figures of 7 for 17
Turning round without taking tea Waltham looked to wrap
up victory with no alarms but Knowl Hill were not going
to make it easy for them and pretty soon Waltham were
in a little bit of trouble as Rasool went for a first
ball duck, Hussain cheaply caught at square leg and
Parker was bowled off a high full toss.
When Kiani was adjudged LBW with only 29 on the board
Waltham were in a bit of a fix. However, calmness in
the middle was restored as Connor joined McGee and they
knocked off the 22 remaining runs with little fuss to
take Waltham to victory.
This was a fabulous victory for WSL set up by an awesome
display of fast bowling.
