Waltham St Lawrence 2nd XI's
dreams of a flying start to the season were blown away
in the Reading sunshine as West Reading's bowling firepower
proved way too much for WSL. After waiting thirty minutes
at the wrong changing rooms (Handbook error), the Waltham
side took a five minute walk to the nearby pitch and
were asked to bat by the West's captain as he won the
toss.
Things were looking good early on as Connor and Thomas
put on 19 for the first wicket. However, after that
a collapse of epic proportions left WSL 55 all out within
20 overs with only Bridgeman showing any sign mastering
the pace of the West Reading attack as their quicks
ran amock.
Both teams turned straight round and Lugthart was straight
into the wickets as Tameel found his steepling bounce
to hard to handle and Connor took the catch. There were
more near misses as Afzal was dropped twice but West's
coasted to an easy victory.
Captain Connor was understandably disappointed but realised
that his side had come up against some formidable opposition
in West Reading. |
