Steady drizzle in the dank
surroundings of ROF Burghfield put pay to Waltham St
Lawrence's attempt to record a league double over Div
6 champions South East Reading. Following three weeks
of player shortages WSL returned to action albeit for
a paltry 26.4 overs.
On arriving at the ground prospect of play was not good
and Connor lost the toss and was invited to field in
poor conditions. Harris and Lugthart opened the bowling
for Waltham and both produced a series of tight overs
with the South East Reading batsmen playing more circumspect
than in the previous outing. Obada was particularly
watchful but was clinical on the scant bad ball given
by the openers.
Eventually a superbly pitched Yorker from Harris put
pay to Hussain's vigil. This was to be Waltham's only
scalp of the afternoon as Reading eked out 40 more runs
in face of excellent seam bowling from Thompson. However,
four balls into the 26th over, the rain began to fall
heavier and play was suspended for an early tea.
Unfortunately the weather got worse and play was abandoned. |
