Hill magic not enough

A tremendous rear guard action by Damon Hill enabled Waltham St Lawrence Seconds to get a score on the board but they were never really in the hunt in spite of excellent bowling from Jones. After winning his first toss of the season, Connor elected to bat then quickly elected to take a second run of the second delivery and was promptly run out with a direct hit from the boundary.

After this, Woolford and the impressive Sharpe began to rebuild the innings but as both fell to catches in quick succession a huge England esque collapse ensued with WSL losing six wickets for eight runs. In stepped Hill, playing his first game of the year and well supported by Olly Brown playing his best innings for the club put on fifty for the ninth wicket, Hill smashing four huge sixes over the short leg side boundary and over the adjacent houses.

When the innings finally ended, Hill had scored more than half the runs and WSL had an outside chance. After tea Waltham begun their quest for wickets with off spinner Nathan Thomas being handed the new ball. The experiment paid off immediately as Smith was taken at slip by Connor.

WSl were hungry for more but excellent bowling by Lugthart went unrewarded as Murphy and Fisher put on 30 until Jones' excellent spell yielded a well deserved wicket. Near misses were the order of the day but once again Waltham simply didn't have enough runs on the board to really press home for victory.
