Waltham St Lawrence 2nd XI's
batting frailties were exposed once again as they were
shot out for just 60 chasing a massive 258 for victory.
After putting the opposition in tight bowling from Taz
Ghulum and Mike Thompson put the home side under the
cosh with edges flying everywhere but into the hands
of the expectant fielders.
Waltham finally got a breakthrough they deserved when
Ghulum bowled Sohail, just reward for an excellent spell
of swing bowling. Thompson at the other end was bowling
beautifully as other opener Dhruu played and missed
with regularity. This good fortune allowed the Ruislip
batsmen to make hay and they put on a further 70 runs
for the second wicket with Thomas bowling Hussain and
then Woolford, fresh from his keeping stint had Khan
caught behind and the fortuitous Dhruu caught at third
man by Chris Sharpe.
WSL were well in the game at this point but all was
about to change as unknown Sri Lankan batsman Arun Kumar
strode to the crease. Not even the locals knew what
he was going to be like but they soon found out as he
smashed the balls to all parts feasting especially from
Connor's buffet as the fifth wicket yielded 110 runs.
Thomas eventually trapped Kumar LBW and Waltham rallied
late on as Woolford took a wonderful catch to dismiss
Williams off Ghulum.
So, Waltham turned round needing an unlikely 258 for
victory and they were soon in trouble as Connor inside
edged onto his stumps for 1 and Woolford was clean bowled
for 5. Rawat and Sharpe didn't last long either as the
impressive Ansari ripped the heart out of the Waltham
batting. Trudgill at the other end could only watch
in disbelief as batsmen came a went with only Thomas
9 n.o showing the application necessary as Waltham,
with only 10 men following a broken finger suffered
by Matt Nebbett finished 60 all out.
Another heavy defeat for the 2nd XI who had no answers
to Ruislip's pace bowling. Congratulations to them on
their victory.
