Matthew Nebbet scored a fantastic
25 against all the odds beating his 2006 tally in one
innings. Opening the batting in the second game of the
Waltham St Lawrence season starter Nebbett played with
flair, flatbatting a six over the short midwicket boundary
and continually punching holes in the hapless Jackson
field on his way to a personal best. Earlier
in the match Jackson had won the toss and elected to
bat, a decision which was to backfire as Arif dismissed
Owen for the first duck of the season. In a blistering
opening burst Arif picked up two further wickets to
finish with 3 for 5 from his 3 overs. Chris
Sharpe and Jody Everett put up some resistance but the
Jackson XI were no match for Naveed Raja's guile and
Nathan Thomas' spin. So with Connor's XI needing only
70 it was the Nebbett show as he showed why with a little
more eating he may bat a little higher this year.
The only real penetration for Jackson XI came from
debutant Keith Lugthart who bowled impressively for
2 for 11 and Olly Brown who dismissed Thomas with a
peach of a ball which swung in and seamed away.
The end victory was finally realised on the 5th
ball of the 8th over as Naveed smashed his third four
in his swashbuckling 20 from 9 balls. |
