A superb all round performance by J Dhillon
earns Pinkneys a 23 run victory over local rivals WSL.
After falling just 4 runs short of a century in his
side's 246 for 6, Dhillon ripped out the heart of the
Waltham reply with bowling figures of 6 for 46 from
13 overs. Pinkneys' mammoth total on a true pitch and
fast outfield was aided by a series of dropped catches.
Opener Woods survived being dropped off his first 2
balls. The exasperated bowler Arif seeing straightforward
chances go begging at first slip and gully. Woods went
on to set the tone for the Pinkneys innings with a rapid
39. Jackson's brave and tireless bowling, 3-51 from
15 consecutive overs, failed to stem the overall flow
of runs. Top scorer Dhillon was also reprieved midway
through his innings when another catch was spilled in
the covers.
Waltham's reply got off to a sound start with Van Zyl
and Ashton compiling half centuries. And after Jackson
had launched another half century, the foundation for
a Waltham victory seemed to have been laid. But the
combination of Dillon's accurate bowling and the suicidal
run out of Waltham skipper Gearing, put paid to any
hopes of a home win. The last 6 wickets falling for
the addition of only 9 runs. |
