Walthams 9 men failed to give Peppard a match
as they were home in time to watch the 1st XI bat. After
winning the toss, Waltham "toss" skipper Don
Rockell chose to bat with only two members of the team
present. Once the other 7 turned up they rushed out
to bat and were soon in trouble as Proudfoot got a ball
to swing away to take Connor's off stump.
Next in was Kiani who drove a crisp four through mid
off before also losing his off stump. Rimmer lloked
in good touch till he was given out LBW when the ball
appeared to hit him outside the line of off stump. Worse
was to follow as Trudgill, who was looking very fluent
was given out LBW whilst sweeping a ball pitched outside
leg stump.
Nothing was going for Waltham and the umpire seemed
to struggling with the laws of the game. This was further
emphasised when the impressive Burge fell to the "primary
School" one hand one bounce rule. Christodolou
and Rockell got first ballers and Thomas was caught
at mid on leaving Toy, high and dry as WSL posted a
woeful 72.
WSL went straight out after the change of innings intent
on making a game of things but this didn't materialise
in spite of some excellent bowling by Rimmer and Burge.
With 9 men there were too many gaps to plug and Peppard
reached their target easily. |
