Good signs for Waltham

Waltham St Lawrence 2nd XI lost to Holyport in the opening friendly of the season but captain James Woolford will take much heart from a good all round performance by his team. After losing the toss Waltham's bowlers worked out the rustiness of the winter reducing the hosts to 54 - 4 before Bond set about the attack with great aplomb eventually finishing with 100*. For Waltham Woolford followed up a tough winters training with a sustained spell of swing bowling whilst Rashid was frugal in conceding only 8 runs from his 8 overs. In addition, new season signing Matt "Magnet " Nebbett was pantherlike in the field pouching 2 excellent catches. So set a challenging 240 for victory, Waltham's main aim was to bat out the full 45 overs, a feat that had eluded them so many times last season and an excellent 45 from Waltham's man of the match Adrian Bridgeman enabled them to do exactly that. After the early fall of both openers Bridgeman steadied the ship and supported first by Kiani and latterly by a composed Woolford knock, guided the Waltham score towards respectability before Rashid and Nebbett finished the innings not out as Waltham scored 155 / 8.
