WSL CC continued their yo-yo
season with a resounding eight wicket victory over Emmbrook
thanks to some fine catching and bowling and a hard
hitting 65 from Andy Jackson.
A stronger and younger Waltham
side took to the field on a green track and it wasn’t
long before opening bowlers England and Jackson
had the Emmbrook batsmen struggling. With his third
ball, Chris England cut one back to take Phipp’s
middle stump.
Shortly after, he had fellow opener ……………….. smartly
snapped up by wicket keeper Hill. It was then
Andy Jackson’s turn: he removed the dangerous Layne
and Hayman in consecutive overs, both to well taken
catches by Burge and Bridgeman. This shattered the Emmbrook
batting who were reeling at 35 for 4 from a staggering
20 overs. Although Sabir and McConnon put together a
brief stand, Rahid Arif chipped in with two further
quick wickets to leave the home side 77 for 7. However,
the Embrook tail wagged due to some aggressive hitting
from Trill(37) until Jackson cleaned
up with the score on a more respectable 119.
In reply, Ashton and Jackson
made a good, solid start against the tricky Hayman,
capitalising on his weaker opening partners. Andy Jackson
was in aggressive mood, plundering any loose bowling,
dispatching fours and sixes to all parts of the ground.
Ashton (21) finally fell fending a short delivery from
Hayman when the score was on 45. Jackson,
now joined by the more circumspect Bridgeman, took this
as his cue to accelerate and the score rapidly move
on to 100 and Andy moving on to his first fifty of the
season. Unfortunately, the dogged Bridgeman was dismissed
with the score on 101, making 13. The prolific Paul
Gearing(15n.o) strode to the crease and immediately
smashed the winning runs with two sixes over the adjacent
railway! Jackson carried his bat
with a man of the match 65 n.o. and 4 wickets. |
