Waltham St Lawrence's good
early season Sunday form deserted them last Sunday against
a strong Little Marlow side. After losing the toss and
being asked to field Waltham started brightly with Burge
trapping Armitage LBW. Little Marlow's scoring rate
was slow and Waltham thought they were in with a good
chance and things got better as Nebbett bowled Balabandian
to leave the hosts on 82 for 2.
However the turning point in the match was undoubtedly
Hussain's innings of 84. After struggling early on after
being dropped twice he begun to find his timing. He
was joined later by Rashid who also scored a 50. Sharpe
however did for Hussain with a delivery that turned
and Hill did the rest behind the stumps. Nebbett then
returned to pick up 2 further wickets to leave him with
club best figures of 3 - 55. Opening up after tea
all eyes were on Dan Owen who had been out without scoring
in his previous 4 innings. After a couple of solid defensive
shots he finally unleashed his favourite cover drive
for a well taken 2 and the monkey was off his back.
The rest of the team celebrated wildly but were silenced
when quick wickets fell leaving Waltham in a precarious
23 for 5.
Woolford then joined Hill at the crease and things were
looking very positive as Hill climbed into a full toss
and launched it over the huge oak tree at midwicket.
Hill's effort finally came to an end as he was given
out LBW but this just fired up Woolford. Playing with
painkillers he cut and drove superbly to within one
of a half century before he was last man out for 49.
Once again this was a below par performance from
Waltham and one which will need to be improved upon
for next weeks tussle with local neighbours White Waltham.
